Two big turkeys featured here. After all sometimes we have to poke fun of ourselves and be persistent about not taking ourselves so darn serious! Turkeybeard stops me in my tracks no matter how many I see along the trail. I’ve been practicing saying the Latin name of this plant. Here goes, Xerophyllum asphodeloides. How did I do? Lol

I think we might have a new Piney Tribe fan! Miss New Jersey was happy enough to pose with Pinelands author William Lewis today at the Annual Monmouth County Homeschool Fair in Tinton Falls. This Piney told her all about the New Jersey Pines and how my first #1 bestseller New Jersey’s Lost Piney Culture was a must read for any true Jerseyian. @brilobue thank you for a once and a lifetime photo capture. You are a true gem of Jersey representing all the smart, funny, and kind people who call NJ home. Hope you get a chance to checkout that coffee shop/ vegan restaurant I recommended the one where I did most of my writing for book 1 of 3, @themothcoffeehouse . I really think you’ll like it you being from Old Bridge and slightly partial to Monmouth County! We need you to head south to discover some of the gems in the pines like @pinebarrenspost and @lbs_lunch_box just to name a few. Let me know if you need a tour guide .

How exciting to be at a homeschooling festival. Kids helping setup are so full of questions and curious about Piney Joe, birds, and the Pinelands. Just love it! If you need an activity for the day come out and say hello while you browse all the vendors here.1189 Hope road, Tinton Falls, NJ 07712.

This is my mud puddle there are many like it but this one is mine! Hey any of you have kids in your life that get homeschooled? There’s a big Annual ACCE Homeschool Fair tomorrow from 11-2 pm at 1189 Hope Road, Tinton Falls, NJ 07724. That’s a little less than ten miles north of Asbury. I’ll be there hawking Piney History. Just me and Piney Joe getting the word out about his new book, Adventure with Piney Joe- Exploring the New Jersey Pine Barrens. No better guide out there that teaches Piney lore, environmentalism, both local and natural history, and a slice of funny storytelling to boot. I’d you got a book that needs signing bring it by if you need a book I’m your guy. Perfect weather for a good time along the shore. Tell family that might be interested in a free event and I hear they have door prizes too. See you at 11.

"One thing of contention for me about people who use the word Piney. Out of the ten types of Pineys, there is one that I did not give definition to but over the years have found there is the 11th type of Piney. There are folks parading around pretending to be Pineys. A community member named Yael called them professional Pineys. People who only talk Piney and sing praises to the Pine Barrens for notoriety and to be part of something they never were part of for all the wrong reasons. Just because John McPhee wrote a book about the pines doesn't make him a Piney and he's never claimed to be one but others have. One can sing a Bob Dylan song but it doesn't warrant you walking around with a nametag that reads Bob Dylan."
