The family histories are what make me the most emotional. Know that if you share with me a family story it is held in the highest esteem. Many family historians keep their stories and they never get passed on. Not knowing those stories is an important recollection of our collective history. If you find a chance to document your history in print whether by your own hand with a pen or through sharing with a writer, you trust know you're doing something good for the future of all of us. There’s a great quote that comes to mind which is in one of my stories due out in February, “It is the landscape, rather than a single place, that stores a whole story, preserving individual places without reference to the surrounding landscape; therefore, it is not enough. Nor, for that matter, is the purely physical preservation of the landscape. People must also continue to tell stories and maintain the practices that make the landscape significant in terms of traditional history. They must be able to keep visiting the places, gathering the materials, and performing the ceremonies.”

Man oh man hope the old tradition that lots of acorns and lots of berries on holly trees means lots of snow in the winter. Are your holly trees loaded in red berries this year? A pineycraft of old which I haven’t seen this many berries in a really long time.

The dedication page to my next book titled South Jersey Legends & Lore- Tales from the Pine Barrens and Beyond, release date 2/26/2024. I never would have thought back in high school that I’d be dedicating my 4th book to Mrs. Olsen. It really makes you stop and think, “Am I making that kind of impact in someone’s life too?” You never know who’s watching you trying to learn a way forward too.

@pinelandsalliance thank you for providing an opportunity for both the public and the artist to meet! We are on the last day of the Green Trading Post where local artisans hawk their wares and tell tall tales. I happen to see the artist whose artwork hangs in my office is tabling next to me. I brought my poster of Susan’s with me today so she could autograph it for me. Plenty of shopping opportunities here today. Join us from 12 to 4 pm at the Bishop Farmstead in Southampton NJ.

Piney Tribe is In Southampton New Jersey today for @pinelandsalliance ‘s Green Trading Post. It’s today and tomorrow from 11 am to 4 pm. Pinch in Bishop Farm and I think the GPS brings you right to us. Dozens of Pine Barrens vendors which have wonderful holiday gifts found nowhere else.

Not a book really but a university thesis. I’ve quoted this document but never got to read it through being it’s hard to come by. It’s got a great perspective in that it’s written by the focus on how the American Revolution affected the people not the major battles fought and won by George Washington. Special emphasis is on the Pine Barrens. Religion plays a key factor in who supported the rebellion and who didn’t.
